Summary and Corporate Profile:

Our client, a behavioral and mental health care provider based in Charlotte, North Carolina is currently seeking a Certified Peer Support Supervisor.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the provision of structured, scheduled services promoting recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, engagement in self-care and wellness, educate/teach independent living skills, and assist with community integration. The primary role of this position is to provide Supervision and oversight to the Peer Support and Peer Bridger Programs. The Peer Support Supervisor will supervise staff that serve adults with mental illness and substance abuse issues.  S(he) is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Peer Support and Peer Bridger Programs. This oversight includes, but is not limited to, compliance with all Federal, State, County and local standards and guidelines; provision of clinical back-up in the absence of a peer support specialist; development of a team back-up system; compliance with all  policies, procedures, standards, deadlines and outcome measures; staff orientation and training; individual supervision of staff; liaison with community based services and natural supports; tracking of all team outcome measures; completion of all team reports; monitoring of staff productivity and error reports; interviewing and hiring for all team vacancies and leading weekly treatment team meetings.

Additionally, it is the expectation that the Peer Support Supervisor will provide direct services to clients assigned to the team.

Role Description and Responsibilities

  • The Peer Support Supervisor works under the supervision of the VP of Enhanced Services. 

  • The Peer Support Supervisor will be required to participate in the initial engagement of participants entering services and conduct a face to face visit with each participant at least every 90 days. 

  • The Peer Support Supervisor will assign participants to staff, review and sign requests for authorizations, review treatment plans, and oversee ongoing clinical justification for services. 

  • The Peer Support Supervisor Supervisor will also be responsible for completing performance evaluations on all staff according to company policy.

  • The Peer Support Supervisor will be responsible for the orientation and on-going training of team staff.  

  • The Peer Support Supervisor will conduct weekly team meetings for the purpose of discussing work performance measures, sharing information and updates, providing feedback, discussing important clinical issues, and hearing input from case managers.

  • The Peer Support Supervisor will recruit, coach, mentor, and coordinate the work of a team of Certified Peer Support Specialists.

  • Link assigned clients and their families to other community resources.

  • Maintain frequent contacts with peers and/or administrative related personnel for client and site related information for joint planning and action.

  • Act as link between hospital discharge planners and clinical team.

  • Manage preparation of required reports and budget.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Experience and Education

  • Graduate of a college or university with a Masters degree in a human service field and has one year of full-time, post-graduate degree accumulated mh/dd/sa experience; or graduate of college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a human service field and has two years of full-time, post-bachelor’s degree accumulated mh/dd/sa experience; or a graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a field other than human services and has four years of full-time, post-bachelor’s degree accumulated mh/dd/sa experience in order to be a Qualified Professional (QP).

  • Must be able to demonstrate competency according to the North Carolina Department of Mental Health’s standards for a Qualified Professional (“QP”). Must be able to facilitate plan meetings, complete treatment authorization request and all clinical documentation for the authorization and approval of services. 

  • 3 - 5 years: Experience working with individuals in the recovery process.

  • A valid driver’s license from the State of North Carolina or South Carolina

  • Knowledge of the North Carolina Department of Mental Health’s Peer Support Service Definitions coupled with a basic understanding of the Recovery model as a Best Practice.

  • Must have strong organizational and people skills. 

  • Previous experience in supervision preferred, but not required.

Licenses & Certifications (Required)

  • Peer Support Specialist Certification, preferred

  • Peer Support Supervisor Certification, preferred

  • Obtain and maintain Vendormate Credentialing for the Peer Bridger program

Technical Skills

  • Basic computer skills for using Microsoft Word

  • Ability to use Electronic Health Record system

  • Writing skills that include sentence structure, grammar, and use of clinical terminology
