Our client, a reputable mining firm is seeking a Maintenance Specialist - Heavy Mining Equipment Maintenance who focuses on heavy mining equipment maintenance. Lead maintenance strategies, ensure equipment reliability, and drive operational efficiency in the mining sector.
ROLE DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as the go-to technical expert for the maintenance and reliability of Sandvik LH621i loaders, Caterpillar R2900 loaders, and Volvo A45G trucks.

Provide advanced technical guidance and support for Sandvik DL431 and DL432i development drill rigs, Liebherr R984C excavators, Caterpillar 777 trucks, and other ancillary mining equipment.

Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of equipment operating systems, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components.

Provide technical guidance and support to the maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve equipment issues promptly.

Review and analyze equipment performance data, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions to improve reliability and efficiency.
Maintenance Strategy Development: -
Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies for heavy mining equipment, including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.

Work closely with the maintenance planning team to ensure that maintenance activities are scheduled and executed in a manner that minimizes downtime and maximizes equipment availability.

Recommend and oversee the implementation of modifications, upgrades, or retrofits to enhance equipment performance and safety.
Continuous Improvement: -
Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing equipment reliability, reducing maintenance costs, and optimizing the total cost of ownership.

Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in heavy mining equipment management, incorporating relevant innovations into the operation.

Drive root cause analysis of equipment failures, implementing corrective actions and lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
Training, Development and Reporting: -
Provide mentorship and training to maintenance and operations personnel, enhancing their technical skills and knowledge of heavy mining equipment.

Develop and deliver training programs on new equipment, maintenance techniques, and safety procedures.

Support the professional development of the maintenance team, identifying opportunities for growth and advancement.

Vendor and Contractor Management: -
Liaise with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers to ensure the availability of quality parts, services, and technical support.

Evaluate and manage vendor performance, ensuring that service level agreements are met and that the company receives value for its investment.

Oversee the work of contractors, ensuring that they adhere to company standards and complete tasks on time and within budget.
Safety and Compliance: -
Ensure all equipment maintenance and operational activities comply with company safety standards, regulations, and best practices.

Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, addressing any identified risks or non-compliance issues.

Promote a culture of safety, actively participating in safety meetings and initiatives.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
-
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automobile Engineering or a related field.

Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in the maintenance of mobile mining equipment, with at least 5 years in a leadership or advisory role.

Proven track record of successfully troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues on mobile mining equipment.
-
Experience in training and developing maintenance teams.
-
Relevant certifications in hydraulic systems, electrical systems, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Sectional Engineer Certification by MinCom
-
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.

Valid driver's license.
