CORPORATE PROFILE

Our client, one of the leading mining firm in Ghana is looking to recruit a Learning & Development Superintendent. The candidate would manage all learning and development solutions associated with Technical and Non-Technical training across the business. 
The incumbent will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing training and development programmes that enhance employee skills, promote a high-performance culture and career growth. The role ensures compliance with company policies and industry standards while fostering a culture of continuous learning to support operational excellence and business objectives. 

ROLE DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Learning and Development Analysis and Assessments o Perform role analyses and skills audits to determine extent of current skills within the business.
    o Identify talent gaps arising out of the audit and develop action plans to address developmental and skills gaps.
    o Support career progression by identifying high-potential employees and creating individual development plans for implementation.
    o Align training initiatives with succession planning to ensure a pipeline of skilled talent. 
    o Investigate assessment methodologies for possible implementation into existing and new Learning and Development programs.
    o Monitor training result metrics that include tracking information, costs, training effectiveness and feedback, for compliance purposes.
    o Review and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, assessment methodologies, processes and techniques on a continuous basis, in consultation with relevant internal stakeholders, to ensure operational learning and development excellence.

     

  • Learning & Development Curricula Development
    o Manage the development of curricula and support materials for all learning and development programs by drawing upon resources from Ghana and other countries as may be required.
    o Deliver cost effective competency-based training programs to employees to develop the required skills.
    o Develop an effective on-boarding program for the site.

     

  • Learning & Development External Accreditations 
    o  Liaise with external training providers (such as UMAT, Edumine, City and Guilds, etc.) to renew internal GSWL training rights accreditation.
    o Develop assessment content for all relevant external accreditations.
    o Obtain certifications / accreditation status for new programs initiated into GSWL.
    o Manage the budgetary controls around payments for new and existing certifications.
    o Enlist external training providers to participate in on-site visits to verify the quality of training executed to staff.

     

  • Learning & Development Managerial Oversight 
    o
    Plan, conceptualise and design training policies, processes, and standards required to meet operational needs, including technical (equipment operation and maintenance), trades, computer applications, basic work skills, administration, and cultural training.o Manage and oversee all activities of the Learning and Development Department, including management of people and budget.o Oversee and manage the conceptualization, development and enhancement of the following:a. Health, Safety and Environmental Learning Solutions.b. Mine Operations Learning Solutions.c. Mine Maintenance/HME Learning Solutions.d. Process Operations Learning Solutions.e. Process Maintenance Learning Solutions.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resource Management/Business Administration or related field.

  • Minimum of 6 – 8 years’ experience in a Mining/Oil and Gas or Construction industry environment, of which 3 – 4 years should be in a supervisory capacity.

  • Experience in competency-based training curricula.

  • Master's degree and/or a professional certification is an added advantage.

  • Certificate in Business Training and Administration.

  • Workplace Trainer and Assessor Certification.

  • Professional teaching and/or facilitation background is preferable.

  • Experience in program implementation.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing large scale training programmes for technical and leadership development.

  • Budget preparation skill

    Knowledge:  

  • Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of popular PC web-based programs.

  • Working knowledge of general HR policies and procedures.

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.

  • Expertise in technical and safety training specific to mining operations.

  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning tools.

  • Relevant mining Industry knowledge, particularly underground mining operations. 

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and processes.

  • Knowledge of the Labour Law 2003 (Act 651), Pensions Act, Workman Compensation Law 1987 (PNDCL 187), Pensions Act 2008 (Act 766), and relevant labour regulations and HR best practices.

  • Knowledge of relevant Mining industry regulations.

  • Proficiency in HR Software, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analytics tools.

  • Ability to manage multiple training projects simultaneously.
